CRI-Young Bangla Launches Internship at Microsoft BD

The Center for Research and Information (CRI) and its youth platform Young Bangla launched the first ever internship opportunity for the university level students of Bangladesh with the leading software giant Microsoft Bangladesh. On 22 March, 2016 (Tuesday) a programme titled “Career Talk on Becoming a Microsoft Intern and Brand Ambassador” was held at the seminar room of the Civil Engineering building of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) with over 300 students from BUET and Dhaka University in attendance. The programme illustrated the details of the said opportunities, drawing spontaneous attention and interest from the participants.

The two month internship and ambassadorship scheme will provide participants with first-hand experience centering working environment at leading multinational companies as well as help them develop their skills required to lift them in such height after their academic life. Under the initiative, to be activated from April, on an initial basis, 50 students will be recruited for the internship while an equal number will get the chance to become a brand ambassador. Every month till next December this process will continue and afterwards to gradually extend the initiative to grass root students and aspirants. Between April and May, similar activation events will be held at Dhaka University (DU) and Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST). Students are being selected for this opportunity based on online and offline submission of CVs.

From the announcement of the initiative around a month ago, online aspirants showed keen interest. This was reaffirmed during the activation event at BUET as demonstrated by the long line of students queuing up for registration. The event was addressed by among others, Ms. Sonia Bashir Kabir, Managing Director of Microsoft Banglades and Mr. Tonmoy Ahmed, Assistant Coordinator, CRI. Phoenix Foundation Bangladesh, a group of youths engaged in various social activities, is assisting CRI and Microsoft Bangladesh in the outreach functions of this endevaour. Apart from information on the initiative, a documentary on the success stories of Young Bangla awardees was screened during the event.

This particular partnership stems from the “Vision 2021 Internship” programme of CRI-Young Bangla. For the first time in Bangladesh, CRI-Young Bangla has been offering the opportunities to talented youth to undertake internships at different ministries of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. So far, under the programme, interns are successfully discharging their duties at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources and the ICT Division of the Ministry of Post, Telecommunications. Works are underway to introduce similar opportunities at the other ministries and departments of the government. In order to extend the scope of the programme to the private sector, CRI-Young Bangla is now also actively working with reputed entities in the corporate world. This latest initiative with Microsoft is a result of that extension.
