CRI Facilitates Youth Politicians Tour of China

Centre for Research and Information (CRI), in partnership with the Embassy of China in Dhaka and the International Department of the Central Committee of Communist Party of China (CPC) recently facilitated a Bangladeshi Youth Politicians Delegation’s tour to China. The objective of the tour was to promote greater cooperation between the young politicians of both countries and to enhance generally the already warm relations existing between Bangladesh and China.

The delegation, headed by Mr. Kazi Nabil Ahmed MP, consisted of eight Members of Bangladesh Parliament and seven leaders/activists of Bangladeshi Awami League and its associate bodies. The Executive Director of CRI, Mr. Saabir Bin Shams accompanied the delegation as the chief coordinator of the tour. As part of the tour, the delegation primarily participated in various meetings and view exchanges with concerned leaders and officials of the Chinese Government and the CPC.
The MPs in the delegation included: Mr. Kazi Nabil Ahmed, Mr. Nahim Razzaq, Mr. Farhad Hossain, Mr. Abul Kalam Md. Ahsanul Haque Chowdhury (Duke), Mr. Razee Mohammad Fakhrul, Ms. Fazilatun Nasa Bappy, Ms. Amatul Kibria Keya Chowdhury and Ms. Nurjahan Begum. The party leaders and workers included the following Assistant Secretaries of Central Sub-Committee of Bangladesh Awami League: Mr. Biplab Barua, Mr. Shah Ali Farhad, Mr. Tarik Shomi, Mr. Tonmoy Ahmed, Ms. Farzana Begum, and Mr. H M Jahidul Islam. Joint Secretary of Bangladesh Youth Women’s League Ms. Kohale Quddus (Mukti) was also a member of the delegation.
Touring the cities of Kunming, Tianjin and Beijing, the delegation had meetings with Ms. Wang Shufen (Vice Chairman, Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Yunnan Province) and other leaders and officials of Yunnan Provincial CPC, Communist Party School in Kunming, Nankai University, Counselor and other officials of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Beijing Committee of the Chinese Communist Youth League and with the Assistant Minister of International Department, Central Committee of CPC, Mr. Ji Lun.

Held between June12-17, the tour also saw the youth politicians visiting such sites as the Ethnic Minorities Village in Yunnan, Huawei Exhibition Center in Beijing and the contemporary architectural marvels of Tianjin. The official meetings and view exchanges focused mainly on harnessing and enhancing greater political cooperation between the two countries to achieve the shared aspirations of development and prosperity. Joint research, training and youth exchanges and visits were also high on the agenda of the meetings and view exchanges.

Bangladesh’s socio-economic development successes under Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina were lauded by the Chinese officials during the meetings and view exchanges. Mr. Ji Lun stated that Bangladesh has been able to achieve consistently high economic growth rate despite the global economic slowdown due to the forward looking leadership of HPM Sheikh Hasina. The visiting delegation in turn, appreciated the partnership the two countries have in terms of developing Bangladesh’s infrastructure. Topics such as regional connectivity, trade and commerce, defence and security, international relations, agriculture, tourism, people to people contacts, culture, sports, and development strategies were also discussed with due significance.
