CRI Helps Organize Workshops for MPs on Social Media

Bangladesh Awami League has today started a series of workshops on social media usage by Members of Bangladesh Parliament (MPs) with the technical and knowledge assistance of the Centre for Research and Information (CRI).

The three workshops (for 7th, 8th and 9th April 2017) are being held at the Party President’s Office at Dhanmondi, Dhaka. Around 50 MPs participated in the first of the three workshops today, while a further 100 more are expected to attend the next two. The workshop was inaugurated by the party’s General Secretary and Honorable Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader MP.

The Honorable ICT Affairs Advisor to the Prime Minister Sajeeb Wazed was present as the Chief Guest. He highlighted that in today’s age, online publicity and reach are extremely important for politicians and policymakers. He added that simply doing good work is not enough these days. Rather, they also need to be highlighted to the target groups effectively.

The workshop was moderated by the Honorable State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak MP, who also gave a presentation on ‘Digital Bangladesh’. The workshop was also addressed by Sabbir Bin Shams, Executive Director of CRI.

Barrister Shah Ali Farhad, Senior Analyst at CRI, gave a presentation on “Effective Social Media Strategies for Parliamentarians and Politicians”. The aim of this presentation was to orient the participants on maximizing their reach and engagement with their respective constituents by using the best strategies and online methods. Presenting another presentation on social media presence of Awami League, Tonmoy Ahmed, Assistant Coordinator of CRI, introduced all online platforms of the party and spoke on how MPs can help spread the reach of the party among grassroots people using online platforms.

The presentations were followed by a question and answer sessions, where the presenters responded to various queries from MPs regarding social media use and security. Printed handbooks and resources on social media usage was also provided to the MPs.
