Meanwhile, 384 Sports competition organized for children with disability and autism during 2009-16.
Bangladesh enjoyed sporting success in cricket with its men’s cricket team reach- ing the quarter final of World Cup 2015, semi-final of ICC Champions Trophy 2017 and winning One Day series against top ranked team like South Africa, India and Pakistan.
5.3 Increased Participation of Woman
Bangladesh boasts of women participa- tion in athletics, swimming, shooting etc. Sports associations offer incentives and special training to women participants. The women’s cricket in Bangladesh has
travelled a long distance since the team’s inception in 2007. Women’s Under 16 football team recently qualified for the Asian Football Confederation Champion- ship. Athlete Mabia Akter Simanto won gold in 63kg weightlifting category at the 2016 South Asia Games. She also won gold in 63 kg during Commonwealth Youth competition. Another woman athlet Mahfuza Khatun Shila became the first ever female swimmer from the country to clinch a South Asian Games gold medal in 100 metre breaststroke.
5.4 Award and Recognition
Sports person, teams and clubs are encouraged by the government. Different clubs and education institutions received $ 158,228 for sports activity during 2015-16. Thirty-two sports persons and organizers received National Award for Sports in 2010-12 and 112 sportsmen got awarded in international competitions during 2009-16.
