Joy Bangla Youth Award 2018 – the final moment has almost arrived

The wait is almost over. It is just a matter of couple of days now. Young Bangla, the largest national platform for Bangladeshi youth, is all set to host the Joy Bangla Youth Award 2018 on October 27 & 28 at the Sheikh Hasina National Youth Development Institute (SHNYDI), Savar. This is going to be the third edition of the prestigious award after the previous two editions of 2017 and 2015. The award, a flagship program of Young Bangla, recognizes promising innovators, initiators and change-makers from our youth group who are working for their respective communities and the nation. This time, 50 youth-led organizations will be selected on day one (October 27) and on day two, the name of the top 30 organizations will be declared (October 28) who will receive the award. Sajeeb Wajed, ICT adviser to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh will hand over the award to the best 10 youth-led organizations.

The award ceremony will be alive when representatives of selected organizations assemble at the venue form the noon of October 26. There will be an orientation session at that night when participants will get to know each other.

The power-pack award event will kick-off from October 27. The morning will be marked with a session called ‘Career Talk at HR Tent’ participated by 200 youths including previous 60 awardees. The participants will get a platform to share success stories as entrepreneurs, about barriers and challenges and ways to overcome challenges. Also, interactive discussion will take place on recruitment process, human resource development, etc in the session. The session will be moderated by Randy Godfrey.

Next on the roster is ‘Let’s Talk on Joy Bangla of Youth’. Youth icon such as mountaineer Nishat Majumder, swimmer Mahfuza Khatun Shila, entrepreneur Vashani Akter are going to be the panelists in this side event. JBYA winners Anis Morshed, Kumar Biswajit and Umme Sayma Joya will also take part. The session will be moderated by Barrister Shah Ali Farhad. Diverse topics ranging from mental and physical health, education-skill and employment to civic responsibility and future Bangladesh are going to be discussed.

In the last session of the day, fifty selected youth organizations will receive certificate from the hands of the partners of Centre for Research and Information and Young Bangla. Soon after, the awardees will have chance to share their reactions and stories.

Day two will began with a session on Women’s Right and Safety. The two-hour long session titled as ‘#BeBrave’ will be presided by Mr. Sheikh Imtiaz, Assocate Professor, Department of Gender Studies, University of Dhaka.

The pinnacle of the award ceremony will arrive at 4 pm when the name of the 30 awardee organizations will be declared and the chief guest Sajeeb Wajed hand over JOY Bangla Youth Award to the 10 best organizations. And finally, to cap up the event, there will be a ‘Musical Swaree’ in the evening.

During the three-month long process of JBYA 2018, Young Bangla received 2500 application forms submitted by different youth-led organizations from different parts of the nation. During the selection process, the organizations’ contributions, social acceptability and scope of work are taken into account. The award winners will get opportunity to showcase their works before a large audience including policymakers, media personalities, private sector representatives and many more.
