30 youth-led organizations achieved JBYA 2018

The much coveted Joy Bangla Youth Award 2018 hosted by Young Bangla (YB) went to 30 youth-led organizations this time. These organizations were selected from a list of 50 nominated organizations under 10 categories, including skill development, inclusive education, empowerment of differently-abled people, cultural activism, innovation, sports and fitness, creating public awareness, reducing gender discrimination, environment and climate change, and community development. Sajeeb Wazed, ICT Adviser to the PM of Bangladesh and Chairperson of Centre for Research and Information (CRI), an inspiration to the current youth, handed over the awards at a grand ceremony.

The award recipients are: All for One Foundation, Dhaka; Nari Shakti Jagaroni Foundation, Panchagarh; Lalmonirhat Taekwon-Do Association; Vorer Alo, Chattogram; Akota Unnoyon Shongothon, Jhenidah; Poribesh O Haor Unnoyon Shongothon, Sunamganj; Shikkhar Alo Pathshala, Dhaka; Prothom Surjo Agro Farm, Jashore; Jibon, Rangamati; Sylhet Art and Autism Foundation; Taru Chaya, Faridpur; Social Welfare Institute, Mymensingh; Light of Life, Dhaka; The Flag Girl, Dhaka; BD Assistant, Rangpur; Gurukul, Kushtia; Shopno Tori Foundation, Brahmanbaria; Youth Net for Climate Justice, Barishal; Ghuri Foundation, Barishal; Salandar High School Women’s Basketball Team, Thakurgaon; Shishu Nat, Sylhet; Safal Shrimp Service Center, Satkhira; Anushilon Mojar School, Khulna; Pran O Prokriti, Naogaon; Tarunno 71, Kushtia; Student Organization of Youth Power, Gaibandha; University Tea Student Association, Moulvibazar; Protibondhi Kollayan Shamiti, Mymensingh; Shopno Jatri Foundation, Chattogram and Projukti O Projonmo, Dhaka.

The award ceremony was held before a houseful auditorium at the Sheikh Hasina National Youth Development Institute from 4pm-5:30pm on October 28, 2018. The program got rolling with a welcome note from Nasrul Hamid, MP, honorable state minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources and one of the trustees of CRI.

The chief guest Sajeeb Wazed handed the Joy Bangla Youth Award crest to the top 30 winners of the award. In his chief guest’s speech, Sajeeb Wazed said: ‘the confidence you have shown is outstanding, you must keep this up. You, the Young Bangla awardees have set examples by serving people of the country.”

Each of the nominated 50 organizations received a laptop – courtesy the ICT Division of Bangladesh government. They received a smartphone and a tab – courtesy Aamra Companies and Gemcon group. The auditorium was filled with excitement when the master of ceremonies (MC) announced the name of the top organizations. An audiovisual on the top 10 organizations was shown on the big screen which enthralled the audience. The awardees then graced the stage by tern. They showered with applauses by the audiences while receiving crests and other gifts. The award giving ceremony was followed by a lively performance by popular band Shunnyo. Earlier in the morning, a two-hour session on women’s rights and safety, entitled “#BeBrave” was held.

Just prior to the final event, there was an informal session where the chief guest Sajeeb Wazed interacted with 200 youths consisting of this year’s nominees, previous awardees and others involved with YB initiatives. A number of previous awardees and members shared their experiences of working with YB initiatives like SRDL, Microsoft Young Bangla Internship and Tech Hubs. Some of nominees for JBYA 2018 also shared their stories. The chief guest was full of praise for the works they have done around the country.

Earlier, the third edition of the Joy Bangla Youth Award kicked off on October 26 when 50 youth-led organizations got together in a bootcamp. A discussion titled “Career Talk” was held in the opening session of October 27, where 200 youths including 60 winners of the previous two editions attended. Later in the day, YB organized a ‘Let’s Talk’, in which the topic ‘Joy Bangla of Youth’ was discussed. There were separate stalls for the partner and sponsor organizations/companies in the premises of Sheikh Hasina National Youth Development Institute. The finalist of Joy Bangla Youth Award 2018, previous awardees and all Young Bangla members visited those stalls. The companies collected CVs from the interested participants. YB handed over certificates to all the organizations selected for the award on the first day of the program.

Young Bangla, the largest national platform for youth, following the previous two successful editions of 2017 and 2015, hosted the Joy Bangla Youth Award 2018. During the three-month long process of JBYA 2018, YB received 2500 application forms submitted by different youth-led organizations from different parts of the nation. Young Bangla followed a rigorous evaluation process to select the final 50 nominees and the awardees for this year’s award.
