Joy Bangla Concert 2024 gets an exhilarating debut in the port city

Young Bangla, the youth platform of CRI, hosted the 8th edition of Joy Bangla Concert (JBC) on 7 March, 2024 at M.A.Aziz Stadium of port city Chattogram. The last seven concerts were organized at the Army Stadium in Dhaka. This year’s concert saw an incredible surge in young attendees in Chattogram. With electrifying performances by popular bands, the concert became the talk of the town, setting a new standard for music festivals.

The concert started at 3 pm and went on till 11.00 pm. Nine popular rock bands Tirondaz, Karnival, Meghdol, Avoid Rafa, Cryptic Fate, Lalon, Nemesis, Chirkutt and Artcell performed at the JBC 2024. Tirondaz and Karnival are the native band of Chittagong.

A mix of entertaining and patriotic songs of Shadhin Bangla Betar Kendra (the covert radio station active during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971) were performed by the leading bands of the country. The entire stadium reverberated with chanting of the “Joy Bangla” slogan.

More than 50,000 rock-loving audiences joined the concert. Apart from the massive crowd, several million people at home and abroad watched the event live on several TV channels, social media pages of CRI, Young Bangla and popular media outlets There was online registration, on-spot registration, a designated entry gate and a special zone for females. The presence of female crowd was noteworthy.

To make the event more captivating, apart from the music from bands and singers, other activities were also included such as laser shows, fireworks and a screening of the 7th March speech.

CRI-Young Bangla team along with the event management partners were present at the venue for the full duration of the event to ensure the hassle-free entrance and enjoyment of the people attending. A large number of security personnel from different agencies were also present to ensure top notch security and surveillance.

CRI started commemorating the historic 7 March speech through its first ever JBC held in 2015. The idea of the concert is to connect the youth with Mujib’s 7 March historic speech. Conveying the historical essence of Mujib’s 7 March speech to the youth is the principal objective of the Joy Bangla Concert. And the history is being conveyed through war-time patriotic songs and in what turned out to be the first such themed rock concert in the country.

On 7 March 1971, Bangladesh’s founding father, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman delivered a landmark speech in Dhaka which came to be known as ‘Mujib’s 7th March speech.’ It gave hope in despair, inspired brave feats, and most importantly changed the course of history. At that time, the Pakistani military regime refused to transfer power to Mujib, whose party gained a majority in the election held in 1970.
