Padma Bridge 

Bangladesh’s largest self-financed megastructure Padma Bridge was inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on June 25, 2022. The bridge catalyzes development in southwestern region of the country, which was previously considered ‘backward area,’ due to low economic progress. With increased development activities, over 30 million people of the region are reaping economic and social benefits. This booklet provides a brief account of how the bridge is playing a key role in boosting agriculture, industrialization, trade, and services in the southwestern region.

Hasina: The Statecraft

Sheikh Hasin, a seasoned statesperson and a South Asian stalwart, is the longest-serving prime minister of Bangladesh. She is an avid policymaker where she adopted the principle of “leaving no one behind.” Her policymaking is geared to turn Bangladesh into a progressive country with a strong social welfare system. This CRI publication elaborates how Bangladesh under her leadership went from “being one of the poorest nations” at birth in 1971 to achieving developing country status in 2021.

CRI Annual Report 2022

Annual Report 2022 is a compilation of year-long endeavors of Centre for Research and Information (CRI). In 2022, CRI generated publications and contents capturing Bangladesh’s power and energy sector, infrastructure development, perspective plans, labor sector policies and legal frameworks, delta plan, e-judiciary, Bangladesh’s widely discussed development model and more. Bangladesh Infrastructure And Power 

Infrastructure building has been one of the key agendas of Bangladesh’s development vision in the period since 2009. Bangladesh has put top priority to the development of its transport network. The country witnessed an accelerated growth of the transport sector in the past two-decades. Connectivity is among the top reasons for Bangladesh’s economic transformation from rural-agro base to urban-industrial base. The country’s industrialization agenda has been propelled by the power and energy policies. It has achieved 100% electrification in 2022, which is a true milestone for a rural-riverine country. The new policies are moving towards efficiency gains through advanced tech and better power distribution. This publication looks at the major development plans and infrastructure projects under different sectors, along with their implementation challenges and impacts.

CRI-Young Bangla Annual Report 2021

CRI-Young Bangla Annual Report 2021 is a compilation of year-long endeavors by CRI and its youth platform, Young Bangla. In 2021, CRI released a special publication marking the 50 years of independence. Bangladesh A Green Deal

Bangladesh is at the frontline of the global fight against climate change. The country has also been playing an instrumental role in the global climate conversations while setting examples by turning climate-related vulnerabilities into opportunities.  Many policies, acts and regulations have been enacted over the years to adapt and mitigate the adverse effects of climate change. CRI-Young Bangla Annual Report 2020 is a compilation of yearlong endeavors by CRI and its youth network, Young Bangla. CRI-Young Bangla organized a number of virtual events on COVID-19 related issues faced by youth of Bangladesh. CRI launched a policy magazine ‘WhiteBoard’ which has created a lot of buzz. Gender Based Violence and Women’s Safety at Public Places

Centre for Research and Information (CRI) in collaboration with Center for Men and Masculinities Studies (CMMS) and UNDP Bangladesh, organized a workshop on Gender-Based Violence and Women’s Safety in Public Places. The workshop was designed to enhance basic understanding of gender and violence against women while developing campaign strategies and action plans for women’s safety at public places through a participatory process. Immediate outcome of the workshop suggests enhanced understanding and commitment of the participants to run a nationwide campaign to prevent sexual violence in public place.

Poverty Reduction, Social Welfare and Inclusion: A Decade of Turning Policies into Action: (2009-2018)

Bangladesh has unquestionably been riding on a mounting trajectory of rapid development. Over the last one decade, the country, under the able and prudent leadership of Honorable Prime Minister (HPM) Sheikh Hasina, has been credited with a never-seen-before rise in economy, higher foreign investment, decrease in poverty and significant strides in human development. Rohingyas in Bangladesh – The Crisis in Numbers

Since 25 August 2017, when violence broke out in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, more than 725,000 Rohingyas seek refuge in Bangladesh. কৃষি খাত বাংলাদেশের অর্থনীতির প্রাণ। বাংলাদেশের অর্থনীতির চাকাকে বেগবান করতে কৃষি খাত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করে। বাংলাদেশের মানুষের জন্য দীর্ঘস্থায়ী খাদ্য নিরাপত্তা নিশ্চিত করার পাশাপাশি লাভজনক, টেঁকসই ও পরিবেশ বান্ধব কৃষি ব্যবস্থা নিশ্চিত করতে সরকার কৃষি খাতের ওপর বিশেষ গুরুত্ব আরোপ করে এসেছে। জনসংখ্যা বৃদ্ধির ফলে চাষযোগ্য জমির পরিমাণ ক্রমান্বয়ে হ্রাস পাওয়া সত্ত্বেও কৃষি ব্যবস্থা ৪ দশমিক ১৯ শতাংশ হারে সম্প্রসারিত হয়েছে। কৃষি খাতের টেঁকসই প্রবৃদ্ধির লক্ষ্যে সরকার প্রযুক্তি ভিত্তিক কৃষি সম্প্রসারণ, ফসল বৈচিত্র্য করণ, মৌসুমি ও মৌসুম বহির্ভূত ফসল এর উৎপাদন বৃদ্ধি ইত্যাদি কর্মকাণ্ড চলমান রয়েছে। লবণ সহিষ্ণু বীজ, উচ্চ ফলনশীল ধান ও পাটের জাত উন্নয়ন, কৃষি ভর্তুকি ও কৃষি ঋণ প্রদান, সেঁচের জন্য নিরবচ্ছিন্ন বিদ্যুৎ সরবরাহসহ বিভিন্ন সুবিধা প্রদান কৃষি ভিত্তিক শিল্প বিকাশে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রেখেছে। এছাড়া সরকার টেঁকসই উন্নয়ন লক্ষ্যমাত্রার সাথে প্রাসঙ্গিক কৃষি ও খাদ্য নিরাপত্তা নীতি ও কর্মপরিকল্পনা প্রণয়ন করেছে ও বাস্তবায়ন করে যাচ্ছে। এই প্রকাশনায় কীভাবে বাংলাদেশ খাদ্যে স্বয়ংসম্পূর্ণতা অর্জন করেছে এবং কীভাবে কৃষি খাত গত এক দশকে বাংলাদেশ এর অর্থনৈতিক অগ্রগতিতে ভূমিকা রেখেছে তার চিত্র তুলে ধরা হয়েছে।

The Bangladesh Model in Agriculture Growth

Agriculture sector is the lifeline of Bangladesh economy. It plays an instrumental role in fast-tracking the economic growth of Bangladesh. The sector has remained priority to the Awami League led government to ensure a profitable, sustainable and environment-friendly agricultural system and also crucial for long-term food security for the people of Bangladesh. The agriculture sector expanded at a rate of 4.19 per cent confronting the odds like reduction of cultivable land due to population density. The sectoral share of the agriculture sector stood at 14.23 per cent. This publication is an effort to document the contribution and accomplishment of the government in achieving food self-sufficiency and making the agriculture sector a contributing factor for the constant economic growth.

নারীর ক্ষমতায়ন নেতৃত্বে বাংলাদেশ

সকল আর্থ-সামাজিক ও রাজনৈতিক কর্মকাণ্ডে নারীর অংশগ্রহণ নিশ্চিত করার মাধ্যমে সর্বক্ষেত্রে নারী-পুরুষ সমতা প্রতিষ্ঠা করার পথে রয়েছে বাংলাদেশ। গত এক দশকে শিশুমৃত্যু ও মাতৃমৃত্যু হার কমানো, দারিদ্র্য দূরীকরণ, নারী উদ্যোক্তা ও কর্মজীবীর সংখ্যা বাড়ানো, নারীর সামাজিক নিরাপত্তা এবং নারী শিক্ষা ও স্বাস্থ্য খাতে বাংলাদেশ দৃষ্টান্ত স্থাপন করেছে। এর ধারাবাহিকতায় ২০৩০ সালের আগেই নারী-পুরুষ সমতা অর্থাৎ টেকসই উন্নয়ন লক্ষ্যমাত্রা ৪ অর্জন করা সম্ভব হবে বলে আশা করা যাচ্ছে। বাংলাদেশে নারীর ক্ষমতায়ন সম্পর্কিত বিস্তারিত তথ্য তুলে ধরা হয়েছে এই প্রকাশনায়।

Rohingyas in Bangladesh: The Crisis In Numbers

Bangladesh is now a host to one of the largest groups of displaced people in the world – the Rohingyas. While the Rohingyas have traditionally sought refuge in Bangladesh whenever they have encountered persecution in Myanmar, since August 2017, that number has exploded. In the last 9 months, 692,984 Rohingyas have taken refuge in the costal district of Cox’s Bazaar.
